Slipped discs have many aliases such bulging disc, herniated disc, degenerated disc, prolapsed disc, sequestered disc, deflated disc, pinched nerve and a host of curse words if you happen to have one or more problematic spinal discs.
Know your enemy. Your bulging disc started out as a normal, healthy disc that represented the strongest substance in your body. In fact, healthy spinal discs have been found to be able to withstand far more crushing pressure than the bones of the spine themselves. Sadly, your healthy disc became cracked and torn on the inside and this allowed the gel-like center called the “nucleus” to push out from the center of your disc. Now what you have is something similar to what happens when you step on one end of a water balloon. The end you are not stepping on bulges outward under high pressure. In your back, this bulging part of the disc now can put direct pressure on the nerves that pass nearby. As many of us know, this can result in radiating pain often called “sciatica” that can travel down to the toes. The buttock pain, thigh pain, knee pain, leg pain, foot pain, numbness, burning and tingling are just unwelcome signs that the nerves that provide life-giving information from the brain to organs are under direct pressure. Left untreated, this condition can produce irreversible problems such as nerve damage and muscle atrophy resulting in chronic disability and organ malfunction.
In modern times, medications are administered in order to block the pain, muscle spasm and inflammation associated with a nerve pinch from a bad disc. Sometimes, injections directly into the area have produced some beneficial but temporary results. Many folks often undergo surgery to cut off the problem part of the disc. All of these approaches having increasing risks. Drug reactions, infections, failed surgeries, paralysis and even death can be the outcome.
None of these sounds too appealing to me.
It would be nice to just try to get the disc back to how it used to be or close to it right?
I agree. Though we can’t turn back the hands of time, a doctor in Troy, Michigan has a unique approach. The doctor’s name is Daniel Farkas and he calls his strategy “Spinal Rejuvenation.” Dr. Farkas says: “It’s simple. By uncompressing compressed areas of the spine, restoring crooked posture and restoring the natural shape of the spine, true healing can occur.”
Dr. Farkas describes the process. He says that a few things have gone wrong and must be addressed. One, the compressed spinal discs must be uncompressed so that water, nutrients and oxygen can get into the damaged tissues. This is accomplished using a pain-free therapy called ‘Spinal Decompression.” This procedure incorporates “Whole Body Vibration” that allows the muscles splinting, guarding and surrounding the damaged discs to relax allowing an influx of water, nutrients and oxygen. In addition, Dr. Farkas states that in-office postural exercises must be performed immediately following a decompression session. Finally, Dr. Farkas says that the client then must perform easy and simple home exercises that are designed to restore the natural curves of the spine. Dr. Farkas says: “The curves have been lost, the discs become unevenly loaded and they crack. This is why restoring the curves is so important as it produces a healthy environment for the healed discs.”
Sounds good? If you have low back pain, foot pain, heel pain, leg pain, knee pain, thigh pain, buttock pain, tailbone pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, arm pain, forearm pain, wrist pain, hand pain or stenosis you may want to have a look at “Spinal Rejuvenation.”
